Andrea Dern is a fine art artist whose interest was triggered by a contest she took part in while in grade school. She emerged top in the contest, winning herself oil paints, brushes, and easel. That was the moment she got so much interested in painting. What has made Andrea to stick with art was the great joy she derived from the daily challenges and the new things to learn in art. The daily challenge of translating the beauty around her into creative art got her further hooked. What she says about her consistency in art is: “Art reflects the world we live in and the beauty of nature, and stimulates creative impulses that open doors to many exciting possibilities.” Andrea studied at North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota and Brentwood Art School in Brentwood, California. She prefers oil paint as her primary medium. This is because oil is more flexible, allowing her to capture her subjects in a given sitting while at the same time making it possible for her to develop different layers of her work over an extended period without compromising the quality.

Most of Andrea’s subjects come from her garden. She captures flowers; from fallen petals to leaves and buds to lilacs. She has a deep understanding of gardening and a rich collection of exotic species of roses, jasmine, and lilac. Andrea has a studio in Southern California that lies right in the middle of her garden. Her many traveling opportunities have also made it possible for her to expand her understanding of her subjects. She has traveled all over the US and has also been to several other parts of the world. Andrea’s works are in private collections such as Tom Hanks, Mary Steenburgen, Delta Burke, Heather Locklear, and Jennifer Nicholson just to mention a few.

"Depicting florals in oil is a constantly growing and evolving process; one which I cherish and strive to uncover more about the mysteries of this organic evolution."
