Artist William McCarthy (Born 1951) was born in Connecticut. He studied under scholarship at Columbus College of Art and Design from 1970 to 1972. Then again from 1988 to 1994 he studied Various Graduate Liberal Studies in Printmaking at Wesleyan University. Since he launched his career as an artist McCarthy was won many prestigious awards including Westport Fine Art Show (First Place for Painting), Armonk art Festival, Armonk (Painting Award), Armonk Outdoor Art Festival, Armonk (First prize), Fine Art, Fine Furnishings Show (Best in Show), and many others. McCarthy has developed a unique style and each of his mysterious and luminous images of rivers, field and trees against sky, evoke a delicate variation of atmosphere and light. He’s good at selecting scenes for his compositions. He also produces paintings from imagination, memory as well as from his thumbnail sketches.

McCarthy works from his basement studio in his home in Connecticut. He works on canvas, paper, and wood board using several layers of gesso before he primes the surface with cadmium red base. McCarthy usually uses a quick sketch of charcoal to lay the design before he applies the paint. He works in layers using thinned down oil color, with glazing techniques he builds on these layers and adjusts the colors to bring the work to completion before he applies the final coats of varnish. This has made him to produce high quality work that has made his art to be very popular. McCarthy has attended several solo and group shows.
