Sylvia Edwards' watercolors are filled with a collection of curious creatures, houses, trees, celestial forms and unusual shapes. She describes her work as a "harmonious, colorful configuration of stories to tell with a beginning, a middle and end. These are pictorial equivalents of free associations and unaffected celebrations of life." Painted with sheer, bright colors, her artwork radiates a joyfulness which lifts the spirit. Edwards has achieved a considerable international reputation and her work for UNICEF is known in many parts of the world. Since 1985, she has consistently donated the reproduction rights of her paintings for UNICEF cards and Greenpeace. She has traveled to over 35 countries, particularly throughout the Middle East, and has a strong interest in primitive cultures. Her work is in the permanent collections of Boston University, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C., and the Tate Gallery, London. She also has had countless exhibitions in galleries around the world.
