Dan Barr is primarily a self taught photographer who’s based out of San Diego California. He takes almost every free opportunity to go camping, backpacking or hiking because he likes the outdoors. Barr grew up in Wyoming and has lived in many different places, including New York, New Mexico and North Dakota, either to pursue an education or for work. He holds a bachelors degree in Biology/Anthropology from the University of New Mexico. After graduation, he proceeded to SUNY Stony Brook for his PhD in cell biology. Although his professional background is as a researcher in cell biology, he’s no longer working in this field. Aside from his really great looking photos, the photographer also has some very interesting ideas about Night Photography.
He talks freely about his creativity process and his gear, and gives some very useful guides and tips for photography students or for people who are intending to develop their photographic skills. Early on, he never had much interest in photography. He had several film cameras over the years but he says he was never much of a photographer. Barr would take photos and end up with rolls of exposed film that he was too lazy to get developed. But with the advent of digital cameras, everything changed. He bought his first digital camera in 2005 (point and shoot camera) while he was living in New York state and working on his graduate degree. He got hooked and is now one of the leading photographers in the world.
