Graham Forsythe holds a BA degree from the University of Guelph. He was born in Ireland and immigrated to Canada, and after living there for some years, he earned citizenship in 1970. After his graduation, he began to write psychological thrillers and short stories. He also traveled extensively, from the Queen Charlottes to the South Pacific, tapping into various experiences and adventures. Forsythe had a blurred, shadowy vision, and it was not until he received an operation to correct this that he began to fully appreciate his surroundings and also began to paint. He was so excited by his sight that he began to record all that he could now see — colors, spaces and shapes — this looked like a logical and necessary step and led to his career as an artist. The excitement is captured on canvas and mirrors a life reaching for something more and full of creating.

Today, his vibrant paintings display a flagrant sense of fervor about life. His paintings take the forms of luminous abstracts, landscapes and still-lifes. Forsythe learnt art by himself and he credits his travels and optical operation as the driving forces behind his success. His paintings are not categorized, but he finds that art can be like meditation instead... without the anticipation of its outcome or prejudices of historical reference. For him, no truer words better describe art. He says that great artists are just like alchemists. Just as alchemists use magic to turn lead into gold, the artists also manipulates their materials to capture 3D subjects on 2D surfaces. He says that without character, a piece of art is little more than just an arrangement of design and color.
