The knobby seahorse, also know as the short-head seahorse, is native to Southern Australia. It is best identified by its spotted pattern and the long filaments that rise out of its head and the upper portion of its back. In this scientific rendering of the unique looking seahorse, Richard Van Genderen uses a style similar to Audubon to capture the unusual characteristics of the shorthead seahorse.

Placing the seahorse on a tan faded background, Van Genderen highlights the “Hippocampus Breviceps” with soft greens and deep blues.
