This contemporary print is of an African American girl standing next to her grandmother who is sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch. The girl is braiding her grandmother’s hair while she is busy reading the newspaper. They are both bare foot. The predominantly white and brown color of this print is accented with a pop of orange in the girl’s top and shorts. Gregory Myrick is a professional artist from Savannah, Georgia who started his painting career by taking a lot of water color work shops. His paintings cover many different aspects of African American culture ranging from Jazz and R and B music to Southern history and landmark.
