Spring into Color!

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 12. March 2015 14:13

Spring Art

Before all the snow melts and the trees begin to sprout new leaves, you can feel Spring stirring within. It may start as a subtle smell in the air that growth is coming, or a warmth from your gut that just seems to know. Seasonal Art has a unique way of activating and enlivening these natural feelings. Consider some of the art options below, and then play with your imagination until you find the right fit for your home's new Spring ambiance!

All about Green

Perhaps the color most associated with Spring, green represents growth and newness. Green is also soothing to the mind! Add splashes of green to existing walls with small, economical art prints like “Summer Field II,” which is only $8.39 for a twelve-by-twelve print. Or, go big and add a green statement painting to your living room! The “Spring Leaves” fine art print by artist Teri Jonas looks fantastic in print or canvas.

Multi-Color Joys

Spring welcomes all colors! If your home is already beautified by many different colors, adding Spring vibes will be easy with fine art floral prints. Whether you're looking for a traditional touch with realistic flowers and landscapes, or a more modern style with abstract floral imagery, there are always many options to fit your home decor.

Purple Says It All

From lavender to deep plum, purple is a beautiful natural color, rarely seen during the colder months of the year. Purples often represent royalty and spirituality, and when artistically portrayed in your home, these tones create feelings of richness, within and without. “Spring Song 1” by artist Helena Alves is a great example of traditional meets modern with variant hues of purple!

Looking for a different color? Yellows often look amazing in the kitchen, while blues are great for bedrooms! Fulcrum Gallery online allows you to search for artwork by color, season, artist, price, and beyond! For more information, contact us for all of your fine art needs!

Children's Art: Bringing Kids’ Rooms to Life

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 16. January 2015 09:01

100%

One of the most enjoyable parts of having a child is decorating his or her bedroom. Before their babies are even born, many new parents design a nursery with artwork and accessories that they hope will appeal to their new arrival. They might choose soothing colors and quiet themes to help the baby (and the new parents!) relax and sleep. As they grow and their eyesight develops, babies are drawn to more visually complex pictures and objects.

For toddlers and older children, playing and learning are their two most important occupations. They may spend as much time playing in their rooms as they do sleeping. When decorating their bedrooms, you can choose children's art from among popular characters, interests, or hobbies. You could design a space that incorporates all of their favorites, or pick a central theme or object, such as a traditional children’s story, and have the artwork complement your theme.

Exposing children to different types of art at a young age can help inspire their own creativity. Furthermore, they will feel more comfortable in a room personalized with their specific interests in mind. When decorating your child’s room, you can explore color and design to create a unique space that appeals to both of you.

BeBall FourSmile

For instance, encourage storytelling and imaginative play by displaying art with characters from beloved books and movies. This can motivate children to recall scenes from stories and to expand on them, creating their own fantasy world right in their bedrooms. Don’t forget the playroom or family room, two more locations where you could decorate with children's art pieces.

One of the greatest types of art we offer for children is educational art. Every child learns at a different pace and hanging educational art in their surroundings can influence their learning. Alphabet posters, animal posters, counting posters and more are a great fit for a child's room. These types of posters make learning colorful and fun with pictures of the what they are teaching. Educational posters brings learning to life and is something they can use as they grow up and for their own future children.

Best 5 Wacky Holidays in January Tailor-Made for Framed Wall Art

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 2. January 2015 11:50

Belong long, January 2015 will be here and it will be time to take down the New Year’s decorations. Perhaps you’re wondering what to replace them with until Valentine’s Day rolls around in February. Well, wonder no more because we’ve dug up five wacky holidays that are tailor-made for hanging up wall art. Here’s a look-see:

Campbell's Soup I (Tomato), 19681.) National Soup Month

Why not decorate the kitchen or dining room in honor of National Soup Month? Believe it or not, there is a lot of interesting wall art that focuses on the delightful dish besides Andy Warhol’s famous Campbell’s Soup Series. There are artists like Will Rafuse, Pamela Gladding, Dan Dipaolo, Jerianne Van Dijk and Jane Maday too. They’ve created art that shows chefs making big, bubbling pots of soup. In addition, over the years there have been many artists who've painted fresh ingredients, bowls, wait staff, restaurants, movie posters and advertisements hawking various kinds of soups.

Cream and Sugar II2.) National Hot Tea Month

While we are still talking about wall art for the kitchen and dining room, we’d be remiss to mention National. Our art gallery has more than 150 pieces of art devoted to tea and tea making equipment alone. One of the artists involved is Helen Vladykina. She’s created a three frame series on tea that focuses on different regions of the world, including Morocco, Russia and Asia. So they could easily fit into a variety of interior design themes. The list of other artists whose tea prints are tied to geographic locations includes Krista Sewell, Charlene Audrey, Gregory Gorham, Deborah Bookman and Ingrid Van De Brand.

3.) National Polka Music Month

Now that we’ve covered the wacky holidays tailor-made for kitchen and dining room art, let’s move on to the den. It’s a good spot to hang wall art in celebration of National Polka Music Month. We’ve got a series of Panoramic Images that capture true-to-life scenes from Poland that would be perfect for such an occasion. There’s also a map of the country available courtesy of artist T. Jeffreys. If you don’t want to hang up pictures of Poland, there are other options as well. They include displaying pictures of dancers, musicians, musical instruments and fun uses of polka dots.

Vintage Letter and Purple Daisy4.) National Mail Order Gardening Month

National Mail Order Gardening Month is also on tap. So why not create a display wall in the den dedicated to mail catalogs, seed packets and gardening implements? Artist Deborah Schenck has created a series of artwork featuring vintage letters and various flower blossoms that could be used as a basis for the display. As for the pictures of gardening tools and seed packets, there are many different artists’ collections to choose from. Among them are Atelier Nouvelles Images, Ginny Joyner, Susan Winget, Daphne Brissonnet, Vision Studio and Kate Ward Thacker.

5.) International Wayfinding Month

Lastly, we can’t forget about International Wayfinding Month. It’s a great way to incorporate an array of maps, directional signage and transportation related art into your building’s hallways, entrance ways and living rooms. If you decide to stick with the living room, consider using movie posters that contain directional words in their titles. Examples include Last Exit to Brooklyn, Exit to Eden and Exit the Dragon Enter the Tiger. To find these pieces of art and others that are ideal for celebrating any number of January’s wacky holidays, please contact us at the Fulcrum Gallery today.

Enhance Your Kitchen Decor with Art!

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 17. December 2014 08:58

Selecting the right type of kitchen art is a daunting yet exciting experience. You want your kitchen to stand out and have a concise style that makes it differ from the rest of your home decor. It is a little challenging trying to find the perfect piece to put and the best spots to put it in the kitchen. Finding the perfect piece of art to hang usually is difficult because most likely, you have appliances of a certain color already in your kitchen. This could also make it easier because you now have a specific color to shop for. If you have one specific bare wall in your kitchen, or a place you want to replace with art, try these tips and styles of art to give it an artistic boost.

Old World

Old World Rooster - Kimberly PolosonThe old world look is beautiful for a kitchen that has soft earth tones and dim lighting. Light brown or cream walls with a cherry wood dining table and chairs is extremely flattering for this style. Kimberly Poloson is one of the many artists who create old world prints that would specifically look great in the kitchen. Some of these prints, like Old World Rooster and Vintage Bouquet I- Mini have a main image in the center of the piece, then have a intricate monochromatic boarder with patterns that help the center image pop. Including these images in your kitchen decor will add a vintage feel that will make you kitchen truly unique.

Traditional

Winter Apples - Pauline Eble CampanelliA light and airy traditional kitchen needs some accents that bring out its color palette. If your kitchen is white with beautiful pastels, why not opt for some lovely botanical prints? Photographs and paintings of daisies, poppies, sunflowers, and water lilies are eye pleasing and would look wonderful on a blank wall near the dining table. If you already have a lot of patterns in colors in your decor, botanical prints are a great way to add more decor without clashing with what is already in your kitchen. Pauline Eble Campanelli is one great artist who creates many pieces perfect for kitchen decor. A lot of them are simple and elegant with a solo basket on the table filled with fruits or plants. These prints are one example of adding a perfect touch to an already traditional styled kitchen or transforming your kitchen's decor to traditional style.

Contemporary

Sliced GrapefruitContemporary kitchens are usually sleek and sophisticated with two main colors for the theme and a few stainless steel appliances. It may be tricky trying to figure out what art style would match with this type of kitchen‘s appeal. A great place to start looking for contemporary art for your kitchen is in contemporary food prints. These prints range from paintings of fruits, coffee, wine, spices, and much more! Contemporary food art is also a great place to start looking because within this style category you can find art to fit your theme. For example, there are many prints that are Tuscan themed, educationally themed, and more!

These are just a few ideas that bring out the styles of kitchens. Kitchen art can be as colorful or as simplistic as you choose. Remember to choose a finish like laminate, frame or canvas, that will protect your art from stains and water damage. Check out our website to browse through hundreds of art pieces to find the perfect art that compliments your kitchen decor!

Popular color trends: Stay gold

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 10. October 2014 08:20

Bliss by Harold Feinstein

Everyone loves popular color trends when they decide to remodel their home or renovate! It's fun to change your decor every once in a while to keep up with current popular color schemes. A very popular color for home decor, especially for this autumn season, is gold. Gold represents a meaning of success, achievement, and triumph. We often associate the color gold with money or wealth, but the color gold has so much more to tell us than just wealth. Many people have linked the color gold as a way to feel empowered and choose to think gold can give off a vibe of positive energy. Some also believe that gold can bring good wisdom, understanding, and enlightenment.

Represents a Meaning of Success, Achievement, and Triumph!

Often we see gold metals for the winner of a race so we connect the color gold and it's meaning to the winner's metal. This color draws attention to itself, it is eye-catching, passionate, and confident. Gold is a color that is often overlooked when choosing decor because of the flashy and wealthy vibe it shows. Decorating an office with gold art, or neutral colored prints with a gold frame, can give one a sense of empowerment and success. Getting gold art, art with a gold frame, or art on canvas with gold painted sides is not only suitable for your office. These will also raise your feeling of success in a library or study room.

Perfect Decor for Autumn Season!

Gentle Rise by Douglas Aagard

Not only is gold great decor for offices, classrooms, libraries, and study rooms, but it is also great for general home decor during autumn season! Decorating your home with paintings and photographs of golden autumn trees and the golden kissed sky during sunset is a great way to bring the beauty of autumn into your home with out having crunchy leaves. Gold autumn decor helps a room pop with color and come to life. Golden touched autumn art is especially a great decor choice for those who find themselves who favor autumn over other seasons. If autumn season is your favorite, why not leave the autumn decor up year round to keep your favorite season around!

Although gold is a popular color to decorate, you want to make sure to not overdo it. Having too much gold decor in your home can be overwhelming since gold is such a bold color. If the room is painted a solid color that compliments gold, just decorating with gold is perfectly fine! But remember, gold is a loud color that does not need help standing out and making a statement. Too much gold decor can ruin the statement you want to make. If done correctly, gold decor can be the perfect inspirational art, or the perfect seasonal art!

Why Not Consider Decorating with Pop Art Featuring Andy Warhol?

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 6. August 2014 10:34

http://www.fulcrumgallery.com/a24594/Andy-Warhol.htm

At its inception, the pop art movement brought relief to those that had grown tired of works created by abstract expressionists. From there, it went on to become one of the most popular art forms of the rebellious 50's and free-wheeling 60's. Today, designers’ passion for decorating with pop art featuring Andy Warhol helps to keep the love affair going.

Brooklyn Bridge in Orange and Blue by Andy Warhol

Warhol, for those readers that may have not been around during the early pop art movement, was born in the 1920's and died in the winter of 1987. His work was renowned the world over. The colorful, iconic images that he used helped to convey what was going on in pop culture, whether the activity was ultimately controversial or not. As such, his artwork often stirred strong feelings in fans and critics alike.

When decorating with pop art featuring Andy Warhol prints, there are several schools of thought to consider. For instance, some interior designers like to display Warhol’s art in areas that match the picture’s subject matter. Others prefer to put the artwork in unrelated, unexpected spots that help jolt viewers out of their rote activities. There are also those that focus more on the colors and patterns inherent in Warhol’s artwork than the actual subject matter.

Daisy by Andy WarholTake Andy Warhol’s Knives, c.1981-82 picture as an example. It could be hung up in a contemporary dining room or kitchen that has pops of black and cream coloring throughout. On the other hand, it could also be placed in a study or office with his series of Guns artwork and Skull, 1976 to show a love of mystery novels and forensic sciences.

There are other Andy Warhol prints on the market today that feature the artist’s quotes and images. One of our favorites is the one titled, Think Rich, Look Poor. It would look great on display in a bedroom changing area or walk-in closet. As would prints like It Takes a lot of Work to Figure Out How to Look So Good, Diamond Dust Shoes and Two Female Fashion Figures c. 1960.

How to Decorate with Classy and Chic Art

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 16. July 2014 15:14

Are you looking for art pieces that are classy and chic? They hold style and elegance and are perennially pleasing? Classy/chic art may not scream for attention but they draw you in with their understated charm. If you're looking to decorate with classy and chic art works, here are some pointers:

What’s Your Theme?

Do you have a theme in mind? You want a theme that withstands the test of time and doesn’t look jaded with the passing of time. Consider themes that are timeless – for instance, art pieces that celebrate the beauty of nature - flowers, plants, landscape, garden, seasons, or the beach. Bring the sun and surf into your house and allow the beach theme to dominate and transport you somewhere where breezes caress and the waves soothe.

Color Scheme

While there are no strict rules for color scheme for your home, some colors will withstand the whims and fancies of time better than others. For instance, psychedelic may be reminiscent of the 60's, where funk and bold collided in a surge of cultural beauty. If you’re decorating a space to reflect that time period, it will work well. However, if you’re striving to decorate a space that will still look classy with time, opt for colors that are more neutral. With a basic neutral color, you can then choose to play it up with a main color or an accent color. Choose art pieces that complement or contrast your basic room color.

http://www.fulcrumgallery.com/Carol-Robinson/Fine-Dining-II_708483.htm?sku=C708483-ACDAAMAStyle of the Artist

Perhaps you’re a fan of a particular artist. Their art works speak to you and feel most like you. Find a number of pieces and build a collage with them or use that one piece to define a room or space. For instance, Cheri Blum, an American painter uses simple lines and shapes to create a sense of peaceful balance in her art. Another popular impressionist artist, Barbara Mock, puts her strong sense of design to good use when creating pieces that capture floral theme, charming birdhouses or delicate teacups and whimsical landscapes. And what about the contemporary artist, Carol Robinson? She offers renditions of beach scene, kitchen décor and landscape with style and splendor. Because their art pieces are classy and chic, you may get more mileage out of them in the long run.

Celebrate those May Flowers with some Floral Art

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 23. May 2013 10:45

Painted Daisies

The April showers are over, and the May flowers are now in full bloom. We suggest bringing those May flowers indoors with some of our amazing, and amazingly varied, floral art.

For your dining room, we suggest a formal floral arrangement, or perhaps a still life with flowers. We have a traditional set of twelve months of flowers, from which you can choose the months that best fit your dining room’s theme—or perhaps you want to choose the months of each family member’s birthdays. We also have traditional, classical vases of flowers as well as Asian floral arrangements.

In the kitchen, we suggest you focus on edible flowers, which include a surprisingly large number of blooms, such as carnation, chive, gardenia, gladiolus, hollyhock, mallow, nasturtium, pansy, and violet. These will brighten up your kitchen and remind you to think outside your comfort zone when cooking! (We also suggest that you research carefully before including any flower petals in your diet, as you would any new food.)

For the master suite, we suggest roses, as these are closely associated with love. We have single, long stemmed roses as well as abundant bouquets. Remember that rose colors have special meanings, so in addition to the traditional red of love, you can choose white in remembrance of your marriage, or orange to remind your beloved of the passion you still hold for him or her. You can also recall your youthful love by choosing a piece like The First Rendezvous.

The First Rendezvous

If you have a study, we suggest hanging some of our botanical drawings of flowers, or some of Steven N. Meyers’ amazing x-ray prints, which reveal everyday flowers in an amazing new light.

The possibilities truly are endless for incorporating floral art into your home at any time of year, so check out the amazing blossoms we have available to brighten the rooms of your home!
