Christopher Bliss	Night Skyline

Christopher Bliss's photography is a great addition to any decor style. Growing up in the beautiful city of New York, Bliss's work reflects the architecture and skylines he grew up with. His work is mostly in black and white making the contrast able to work with most decor. The architecture and contrast of the photographs are striking and subtle allowing them to work in any environment. Architecture photographs are able to play off the light in any room, naturally or artificial lit.

You have your choice of scenery in color or black and white and of architecture or nature, and even your choice of city. From a bedroom sanctuary to the busy kitchen, his work can fit right in. If you adore the city or nature, he has art to suit your home. Christopher Bliss finds inspiration in the invigorating city, and you can too with his photographs.

Originally trained as a concert pianist at the Vienna Academy of Music, the Manhattan School of Music, and the University of Southern California, and now turned photographer, Christopher Bliss's art is truly beautiful. Christopher Bliss Photography reflects this as the photographs are as detailed as a piece of beautiful music.

His photography is held in high esteem and he is often sought after. His work can be found in several galleries and even in two separate photography books, one of which is on the beautiful New York City. Some of his work is even in the permanent collection of the Museum of the City of New York.

Vintage Photography: A Fresh Choice For Holiday Gifts

Renee Stramel	Solid State II

Vintage photography just might be the perfect gift for those people on your holiday list that are hard to buy for, whether it's because they already have everything, they are hard to please, or are business associates or service providers that you just don't know well on a personal level.

Vintage photography has several advantages as a holiday present.  For one thing, it is highly unlikely your recipient will already have what you picked out, or get a duplicate from someone else.  In addition, there are pictures to appeal to every taste.  Does your dad love sports? Instead of the usual team logo item, find him a vintage picture of their great victory.  Is your sister into travel?  Old photographs of some of the locales on her bucket list are sure to make her smile and just might spur her on to plan a trip.  If your best friend loves old movies, pictures from the golden age of Hollywood will remind her of her favorites.  For the history buff, famous newspaper shots make an excellent choice, and there are plenty vintage photographs available to appeal to fans of specialty interests such as sailing, auto racing, or thoroughbred horses.

Free Golf

Vintage photos can even be a great hostess gift for holiday celebrations, as they make a fresh alternative to a bottle of wine or a bouquet of flowers. (If you are not sure of the person's taste, something general like a still life or a scene from nature is a pretty safe bet.)  Vintage photos are relatively inexpensive in relation to the pleasure they will bring.  For someone special, framing the vintage photograph or having it mounted on canvas makes the present more substantial, or you can pick several photographs from a category and start a collection for them.

The next time you are unsure what to get someone, don't take the easy way out and grab a gift card from the supermarket checkout.  Vintage photograph is a thoughtful gift that shows you went to real effort to come up with something the recipient would like.

Bringing Positive Words into Your Home

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 21. November 2014 09:19

Bob Henley	He WillEven before Facebook, artists were creating art from a combination of words and images. Such a combination was used to identify Roman coins, books from a particular college (using a famous quotation), and historical figures. The ornate script identifying the subject of the portrait in the frontispiece of this book (published in 1663) leaves no doubt that it was intended as part of the decoration.

Today, a collage of random words can make an interesting pattern, but when it comes to something that will hang on the wall, most people opt for meaning. After all, if it’s something you’re going to look at every day, you want it to speak to you. Literally.

Of all the rooms in the house, this communication seems to happen most frequently in the kitchen. People talk when they eat, and the cook is going to have her say, regardless. What does your kitchen communicate? A welcome? A blessing? An invitation to laugh? Or maybe just a promise.

Marla Rae	Our Family Rules I

Religious subjects are natural for this type of art, of many cultures and languages. Artists use the co-mingling of language with portraits to express the philosophies closest to their hearts. Most importantly, this is art that comforts.

Even art that was once informational, as this amazing world map, is used to inspire and enlighten. Poetry that moves us when it’s just words on a page becomes doubly meaningful when rendered in a painting that we can identify with.

Above all, some combinations of beloved art and meaningful words become classics that deserve reproduction for many years to come.

Restyle with Retro Art

Dream, Live, Today - James Dean Quote

If you're into thrift store shopping and bargain hunting, chances are your home features a mix-and-match collection of treasures from the past. You're not ashamed that your dishes come in all colors, shapes, and sizes; you embrace it! Enhance the look you already have going by adding some retro art your walls. Remember, art doesn't have to match the couch and the couch doesn't have to match anything else.

Looking for a place to begin? You may or may not be able to remember the days when you could get a hot fudge sundae for 20¢, or an order of fries for 25¢, but with the great variety of attractive vintage food advertisements to be found, the kitchen is a great place to start your retro transformation. Look for retro-style patterned fabrics to make curtains, napkins and tea towels. Go to thrift stores and see what sort of old kitchen gadgets you can find. Even it they're no longer in full working order, you may be able to use them as decorative accents. With a little luck, you'll be able to track down an old-fashioned set of malt shop or Coca-Cola glasses at a second-hand shop to help complete the look.

Roy Lichtenstein	Ohhh...Alright..., 1964

It's easy to find art to go with a retro theme that doesn't necessary scream retro on its own. Keep an eye out for inspirational quotes or text-based posters with an aged, weathered look. For example, here are some distressed text posters that might make lovers of New YorkChicago, and Boston a bit nostalgic.

A Jellyfish Invasion! Featured Artist: Natalie Talocci

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 14. November 2014 12:46

"When I close my eyes and let the sounds take me away, my mind is flooded with creativity. I can almost visualize the sounds," says artist, Natalie Talocci

Natalie Talocci is a local young artist who creates unique abstract art. She has been an artist almost all of her life. Talocci received her Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts from William Patterson University. She has created many pieces that are full of color and life. Though most of her pieces are of animals on land and underwater, she also has painted many portraits, cultural paintings, and has created sculptures.

This November, Natalie Talocci begins her first solo art show at Gold Light Gallery 's opening on November 8th in New Hope, PA. A lot of Talocci's Pieces were displayed at Gold Light Gallery but her Jelly Fish Invasion series was featured. These pieces show the beauty and uniqueness of unique sea life creatures, Jellyfish. "There is something extraordinary about these gelatinous creatures that drift through water so weightless and free," Talocci says. And that is exactly how her art depicts them. When seeing these original pieces, it's almost like watching these animals in their natural habitat.

Natalie created her Jelly Fish Invasion series in a unique way. She started off with a quick sketch. Then she used hot glue to build borders, this gives the finished product texture and really helps it come to life.

Natalie gets her inspiration from music and other famous artists when creating these pieces. Some of her biggest inspirations are Alphonse Mucha, Keith Haring and Wassily Kandinsky. Talocci also stated that New Hope, PA offers a lot of inspiration. Just down the street from Gold Light Gallery, there is a bridge in which you often find artists sitting out with easels painting the beautiful, scenic view. Her advice to upcoming artists is to find a place like New Hope, PA that will give you inspiration.

Natalie is excited to have her Jelly Fish Invasion series featured at Gold Light Gallery. Her series will be featured throughout the month of November during which these original pieces will be available for purchase.

Decorating with Heron Animal Art: Give Your Creativity Wings

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 12. November 2014 13:22

Magical Moment II

With more than 60 recognized species of herons living on this planet, it’s easy to see why so many nature lovers find them completely fascinating. And the love affair shows no signs of stopping. Why just this summer, a group of black-crowned night herons had researchers and Washington, DC, residents enthralled and scrambling to track their every move. Of course not all of us are blessed with such unique opportunities. So thankfully, there are pieces of heron themed, animal art that can help us remain close to these majestic, coastal birds.

Two pieces to consider are Rosiland Solomon’s Night Herons and John James Audubon's Night Heron. Solomon's depiction of the birds is very colorful and shows them in a classic wetlands scene. Color wise, Audubon's rendition is more muted and shows them perched on a branch in seemingly quiet response. Nonetheless, both feature the bird's thick necks, dark crowns, wide bodies, and beautiful color patterns.

Heron in the Grass I

For those that want to surround themselves with photos of herons, we’d suggest taking a look at the work of Moises Levy. He is a talented photographer with a penchant for capturing waterscapes and related wildlife. That said, he has a series of photos that feature herons on the water as well as standing on boats, piers and pylons. There are even a few that depict the winged creatures in flight. Just look for the photos that start with the word, Garzas, or a number followed by the word, Herons.

Rosiland Solomon, John James Audubon and Moises Levy are not the only artists known for their animal themed pieces. Heron lovers may also want to check out animal artwork by people like Jennifer Goldberger, Sydenham Edwards, Alexander Wilson, Chris Vest, Utagawa Hiroshige and James Harris. To learn more about their animal art and tips for filling living space with heron themed decor, please contact us at the Fulcrum Gallery today.
