If you’re a fan of sci-fi television shows, you’ve probably heard of Doctor Who. Doctor Who is a British television series about a Time Lord called The Doctor who travels through time in space in his aptly named TARDIS – Time and Relative Dimension in Space – and usually ends up battling creatures to save the world or the universe from destruction.
That’s a very general description of the show at least. With 13 Doctors (did I mention that when he is near death, he is instantly reincarnated as someone else?) and the show spanning across decades, there’s a lot of material for artists to use as inspiration.
One of the most popular pieces of Doctor Who art created is an image of a Dalek saying, “To Victory!” They’re one of the greatest adversaries that the Doctor has to continuously face over and over again throughout the television series. This piece is very reminiscent of propaganda posters during World War I, which only demonstrates how powerful these Daleks are and their relationship to The Doctor.
Another popular piece of art centered on Doctor Who is an image of the TARDIS spinning around through space and time to reach the next destination. This is shown within the theme song for the show, although this image portrayed it well enough that it works incredibly well on a 2D medium instead of a medium that shows 3D images much more easily.
Perhaps the most popular Doctor Who art poster is one featuring all 13 Doctors together. It’s interesting not only in how it shows each Doctor’s uniqueness with the lighting and background in each panel but also in how it sets the older Doctors farther back in the space within their panels while the newest Doctors are seen much closer to the foreground. All of these posters, but this one especially, would look amazing hanging up in any fan’s room.
