Petkov Joro (Born in 1960) in a small Bulgarian town of Tchiprovtzi, a town known for its carpet design and many distinguished artisans. Joro lived in the town for 13 years after which he moved to Sophia, Bulgaria. While in Sophia, he joined the prestigious Ilia Petrov School of Fine Art. He graduated in 1981 before joining Nikolai Pavlovich Academy of Arts, where his studies focused on different printmaking techniques. He graduated from the academy in 1986 after which he taught general art at Petar Parchevich High School in Sophia. Joro continued to work at the institution until such a time that he realized he had something more to do with his life. In 1991, he quit his teaching job and concentrated on his artistic career. In the late 1980's he decided that he would travel the world to get inspiration and to explore different forms of art. He travelled to the island of Malta where he made paintings of beach scenes and sold them for a living. Later in 1992, he relocated to Canada and settled in Toronto. While in Toronto, Joro started his own printmaking studio and started producing editions. Soon he reached great heights in his printmaking career. He didn’t quit painting though. Joro learned from different American and Canadian artists, introducing him to different techniques and exploring their painting style to make landscape art. Soon after, his paintings became widely famous that he decided to focus his attention to painting. Joro continuously experiments with colors and different styles. He uses a style that sports elements of abstractness yet doing his best to capture the most relevant details that best express his subjects. Joro’s creative pieces can be found in galleries and collections across the globe.
