Rudi Reichardt (Born 1929) was born in Karlsruhe, Germany. He’s a self taught artist. As far back as he can remember he loved painting and drawing. It was exposure to the great European Masters, the rugged stormy landscape of the Black Forest, and the music of the Baroque that shaped his life and work. In 1946, Reichardt began his professional work as a painter of backdrops at the Opera House in Karlsruhe. He worked there for 5 years then he immigrated to Canada, where for the 12 years that followed, he worked as an interior decorator. In 1954, the artist had the first public show of his posters, prints and art in Toronto, Ontario. In 1964 he changed to freelance painting when his paintings were personally selected for the Vincent Price Collection of Fine Art by the well known art connoisseur and actor, Vincent Price. This marked the turning point in Reichardt’s life and brought his work to the attention of the art world.

His career has mushroomed with countless solo shows and also commissions. Reichardt moved to Florida in 1978, after painting the Canadian landscape, its wildlife and birds, from coast to coast. In Florida he spent 6 years painting the landscapes, still-life and seascapes, as well as the wildlife of that region. After the 6 years, he relocated to Flagstaff and in 1985, drawn by the special spiritual quality and power he sensed in the Red Rocks, he again moved to Sedona. This is where he currently lives and works on his posters, prints and art. Together with his wife Edith, the couple has two children, Diana and Stephen. Reichardt is now involved in painting the Southwest and Northern Arizona.
