Bobbie Burgers (Born in 1973) was born in Vancouver, B.C. The artist equates her experiences as a painter with that of dreaming. She describes her practice as ‘a succession of emotions, thoughts or images passing through the mind in which layers of images collage, pile up and float by together. Bobbie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from the University of Victoria. She also attended the Emily Car Institute of Art and Design. In the recent years, her floras have moved to portraits of time from bring just portraits of flowers. While working in her studio, the artist closely guards the moments when dreams slip in as time slips away. Bobbie is interested in the process of metamorphosis, transformation, and decay. She uses a distinct style in which she merges representation with abstraction in increasing degrees. Bobbie’s art work brings together inherent compositions while at the same time revealing her remarkable powers of observation.

Her art has been noted for their bold coloration, compositional rhythms, and sweeping brushstrokes which are gestural in nature. Her art brings to life the fundamental quest to express something emotive, subjective and personal, in an abstract, poetic way. Through her art, future, present and past play out in front of her viewers’ eyes. One art critic said that Bobbie’s subject matter never feels expunged from nature, but rather thought of in and expressed as art. Bold and unstructured, her highly textured paintings reveal layers of emotions. In her painting process, the brushstrokes glide across a canvas just like a caress.
