New York-born wildlife artist Gary Ampel has been a professional artist and portrait painter for close to 4 decades. He studied art in the New York area. He captures on canvas the majesty of the American Plains Indians. He has been painting Native American images and wildlife for several years. Ampel works in oils and acrylics, painting in a realistic style. During his youth, he supported his family by working the outdoor art show circuit, traveling the East Coast in a motor home from Chicago to Houston, and over to Florida and Maine. During those years, his work became nationally and internationally known when it was picked up by Scafa/Modernart of The Art Publishing Group for print production, and also by Bon Art of Art Resources International Ltd.

His original art can be seen at out-door art festivals such as the Allentown Art Festival, Buffalo, NY. the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit, the Gold Coast in Chicago, in downtown New York City, the Corn Hill Art Festival in Rochester, NY, the Coconut Grove Art Show in Miami, the Duchess County Fair, Rhinebeck, NY, and the Hunter Mt. Summer Festivals, Hunter, NY. Ampel was also commissioned to do a plate series, the White Wolf Collection, with the Franklin Mint Co. Ampel has always had great love for both the big cats of Africa and the western Indian tribes. He is a very popular artist; his work has been reproduced on art prints, collectable plates, puzzles and t-shirts. He is considered to be one of the best artists in New York and beyond.
