An award winning artist and teacher, Kathleen Lack studied Commercial Art at San Jose University and later, studied under Daniel Greene, Bob Gerbracht, Chester Arnold and Kent Rupp. Her works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions, and have won numerous awards. Additionally, Kathleen has garnered many family portrait commissions with up to 8 people in a portrait. Kathleen always knew she would eventually become an artist. She now lives and works in Novato, California - she works in watercolor, pastels and oils, and specializes in portraits. The photographs of well-known paintings on the back cover pages of the Reader’s Digest magazine were her earliest childhood art influences. But Kathleen’s utmost inspirations came from a variety of masters, including Vuillard, Edgar Degas and John Singer Sargent. She became an artist because continuously painting and drawing faces from life, and eventually being able to capture the likeness of people, was of great satisfaction for her.

She loves the explorative, creative nature of art, and she likes challenges. The never-ending search for color combinations excites her a lot. Her inspiration to paint and draw people is constant. When Kathleen observes people, she sees a pliable fair hue against the face, the strong morning sunlight creating mysterious curves over the face of s child, a look of a touching involvement when playing the cello - and she’s compelled to capture that on canvas. To Kathleen, it is the graceful body positions, the passion of that moment, the light, color and shadows that need to be rendered.
