Rex Ray is a San Francisco based visual artist known worldwide for his graphic design work. Rex was born and raised in Kaiserslautern, Germany by an American military father and a German mother. He moved with his family from place to place until 1984 when he decided to attend the San Francisco Art Institute, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree.
Along with his successful graphic design career, he has also been showing his fine art in galleries such as Michael Martin Galleries in San Francisco, and also at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
His work appears on book covers, CD covers (including David Bowie), posters, business cards, club fliers, carpets, a Swatch watch, and fabric lining for a new line of clothing. His artwork can be found on canvas, as art-paintings, collages, prints and more. He began making collages as a creative outlet to counteract his computer work. The collages just come to him, and he does not allow himself to obsess over composition or form balance. With his collages, he is extremely prolific: 1,500 works on paper and counting.
