Tim Oldford was born in a small farm in the Canadian Prairies. He says this was probably not the best starting point for a landscape photographer, but there’s nothing he could do. Oldford was born in an artistic family, so it was quite natural for him to become an artist. His mother was a landscape artist, so she dragged him around to every gallery in Canada at a very tender age. This greatly influenced him to become an artist. His father taught him the basics of photography on his Word War II camera and he loved the magic that the camera possessed. Photography became his medium of choice and he put more effort in learning it. At the age of 15 years, he moved to Victoria and found this place quite attractive.

He fell in love with the beauty of the coast and the different subjects it exposed him to. After school, he got into photography more seriously and took some shots at weddings and also took nature pictures which were published in books and newspapers. When his kids came along, he put his camera down for about 15 years and then picked it up again after the children had graduated from school. In the last couple of years, he’s discovered the love for the camera again. He’s sold many pictures through galleries. He’s happy that even if people don’t know him, they can connect with his photos and he finds that very gratifying. He has also started to build his own frames and has found that challenging but rewarding.
