Sabre Esler has been painting since the early 1990’s. An Ohio native, she’s best known for her dreamscapes. Sabre is a graduate of Miami University from where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. She also holds a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Painting from SCAD. Sabre’s current body of work explores the architecture of thought. She says that thoughts have structures that are based on layers of truth-seeking experiences. Her art explores the metaphors “having your head in the clouds”, the “spark of an idea” and “brain storm”, and the concept of “emotional intelligence.” Her expressionist spirit, impasto textures and vivid palette result in canvases that are full of life that reflect the emotional aspects of human psychology. She finds the idea of harmony emerging out of chaos as a compelling condition for our human experience.

Sabre says that those living in cities are constantly snowed under large amounts of data and must deal with an increasingly bustling way of life. In her paintings, she wants to wash this clutter with order and harmony and describe mental pureness. Her works cover an astonishing range, including landscapes, figurative compositions, still life subjects and cityscapes. With her palette knife in hand, the artist works very fast so as to “capture the energy in that certain instant.” She’s currently regarded as one of the most exciting emerging artists in Georgia. Her works are classically familiar, yet fresh and cutting-edge. Her art is strongly influenced by the American Expressionists; she understands the importance of line and the spontaneity and energy it brings to a painting.
