Julie-Anne Gilburt is an artist whose technique involves painting many layers of translucent colors. Many of Julie-Anne’s canvases vary between abstraction and representation, and are influenced by both her love of classical music and her environment. She spent 6 years at university where she studied illustration and after graduation she began a career as a teacher of Art & Design in South East England. She also did her own works of art. The artist began to exhibit with the Oisín Gallery in November 2004 at the gallery's 2004 Annual Christmas Show. This was her first formal showing, and it led to the exposure of her art to both corporate and private collectors and they found her art appealing. New works by Julie-Anne was on exhibit at the gallery throughout 2005. The exhibitions were very successful and Julie-Anne held other one-person exhibitions in both Europe and London with much success. This persuaded her to devote her time to a professional career in art.

She’s currently based in a gallery/studio space overlooking the sea in Brighton, United Kingdom where she continues to produce her art. Julie-Anne uses angular shapes that are based on mathematical principles. These forms are her most abstract works. Others pieces have rotating spiral forms that suggest musical scores and waves. Many of her latest works are frequently presented in triptych or diptych format. Her more figurative works involve a similar technical approach to her seascapes and landscapes by consisting of stark horizons and many layers of paint. She uses sharp contrast to the background, making her images to be very clear, hence more realistic.
