David Coolidge is recognized as one of the leading watercolorists in America. He’s a member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, the American Society of Marine Artists, the American Watercolor Society, the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, the San Diego Watercolor Society, and the Academy of Golf Art. Coolidge paints watercolor scenes from Monet's Garden in France to Shiloh, Tennessee to the Cotswolds in England. Coolidge was originally from the Midwest; he graduated from Drake University and resided in the Philadelphia area for 20 years. He studied in Rome, Italy, and attended The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, but he cites his apprenticeship with Falter John as the high point of his art training. John is a well-known illustrator of covers for the Saturday Evening Post. Coolidge currently has a piece of art which made him win a High Winds medal.

This piece was included the American Watercolor Society’s Traveling Exhibition of the year 2008. While in New York, he was selected to exhibit at the National Academy of Design. This exhibition was very successful and he received many positive feedbacks and criticism. Extensive travel is evident in his paintings. He says that when his viewers associate a scene with thoughts of a place they would like to go, or from a painting with an affectionate memory of a place that they have known, he feels he’s been successful. His continuing fascination for the lush foliage and colorful, bright images that watercolor creates, inspires him. Coolidge has had more than 50 one-man exhibitions.
