Jules Scheffer (Born 1924 – died 2006) was born in Tjimahi, in the Dutch West Indies, West Java. As a boy he used to explore the jungles where he was born and raised. He had a leaning towards the arts and had a conviction that one day he would become a professional artist. He was lucky to have a camera at a young age that he used to photograph exotic birds while he was hunting wild boar. Through this he developed a love for photography and nature. His love of nature which began in that manner has never deserted him. His father arranged for him to enlist in the Royal Dutch Air Force in Australia when the Japanese attacked Java in 1942. Scheffer was then moved to the United States for training as a pilot. After the war, he moved to the United States where he became a citizen in 1950.

Throughout this time he never left photography and was always with his camera. In his early years as an upcoming artist Scheffer used to paint "artist-concepts" for architects all over the United States. As his art matured and he grew older, he turned his efforts to depicting his favorite wildlife with such sensitivity and realism, that they seemed to come alive on his canvas. His art was so attractive that within a short time, he became one of the best artists in the US. Scheffer also became an expert at painting with a pallet knife in his later years. In fact, some of his most prominent pieces of art were created using that media.
