Wilhelm Gorre began to study at the National Art School Bremen in 1950. However, two years later, he had to break his training because of oppressive economic conditions. So from 1952 to 1984 he worked as a graphic designer full-time. In 1961, through the mediation of Dr. Horst Keller, the former curator of the Bremen Kunsthalle, he was free art staff at the Bremen Theatre, where in addition to illustrating program booklets and special posters, he illustrated the drawings of the first ballet in 1963. In the same year he held his first solo exhibition in a Bremer gallery with a ballet theme. In that same year, for professional reasons, he decided to move to Cologne.
The solo shows he has participated in include Städtische Galerie Villa Zanders, Bergisch Gladbach - Wilhelm Gorré in memoriam, and Raum für junge Kunst, Cologne - Wilhelm Gorré – artothek, while the group shows he has participated in include Galerie Roesinger Köln, Cologne - Hommage à Goethe, and Städtische Galerie Villa Zanders, Bergisch Gladbach - Wilhelm Gorré und Hans Schmidt. Gorre is a talented artist and he easily connects with his viewers through his art. He has a wide following that has helped to popularize his artwork. His struggles through life act as his inspiration. He’s also inspired by the places he has visited and the people he has interacted with, especially his fellow artists. Gorre is open to learn from others and his style and technique has developed through the observation of the works by other artists.
