In this whimsical print by John Bardwell, a portly chef is taking a break from a busy and what appears to be a hectic cooking day. He looks exhausted and is sitting on a chair, next to a baking table, enjoying a glass of red wine. His white uniform is splattered with sauce and he is holding a wooden spoon in his left hand. His cheeks are bright red and he has a very thin black moustache. Below his tall chef’s hat can be seen strands of ginger hair. Three pots are simmering in the background releasing loads of steam. On the table is a mixing bowl and spoon. The colors are subtle and pale to reflect the light hearted tone of the painting. Beige blends into cream and pink in a sponge like texture. The stark white of the chef’s uniform and hat are marked with grey lines representing the folds in the material. This print will delight any avid cook with a good sense of humor.
