Find the Perfect Gift for Mom This Mother's Day

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 8. May 2015 08:29

Mother's day is almost here, every mother or soon to be mother should be appreciated always but especially on this day. So, what should you get her to commemorate the occasion? Every mother is different so if you don't already know what mom likes, it can be tricky shopping for a gift for her. An easy and meaningful gift to give mom is artwork. If your mother likes the beauty of flowers or wine then getting artwork is easier than ever. But for mothers that don't like anything specific, that you know of at least, what about art that highlights the special bond between parents and their children? Let’s take a look at some unique fine prints and you’ll quickly see why art is truly the best gift for moms.

For the Flower Loving Mom

Flower art is a great gift for mom's that like flowers and gardening. If you know her favorite flower, you can shop by flower type and get her a painting or photograph of her favorite flower. If she doesn't have a favorite or you don't know her favorite, try searching by color. Giving mom a flower print that is her favorite color is a gift that keeps on giving. Even a print that matches the color scheme in her bedroom or living room. This will make decorating so much easier....all she has to do is open the box and hang the frame or canvas piece.

Another good alternative to getting her flower art that is not her favorite (if you don't know her favorite) is getting a painting or photograph of two flowers together. Giving this to her as a gift can represent you and her and it can also represent your relationship together. If it is a gift from both... find flower art with three flowers.

For the Wine Loving Mom

If mom loves wine, chances are she'll love wine art as well. With over 1,600 art prints in our wine category, you're bound to find one that mom likes. Some women don't like to drink wine, but they love the beauty of wineries and the beauty of wine glasses and bottles. Prints like Vineyard Hill I by Sung Kim and A Wine Tasting by Marilyn Hageman are perfect for the Mothers that love wine for the beauty.

For mothers that love the beauty of wine, but also love drinking it for the taste prints like Wine Bottle, Grapes and Walnuts by Loran Speck would be a better choice. It shows a wine glass with food and also shows foods that go great with wine like fruit and nuts.

For the Animal Loving Mom

Animal paintings are always a great path for a gift, it can speak to lovers and non lovers of animals and gives a personal touch to your gift. The first way you can go about shopping for animal gifts for mom is to shop by animal. If she has a favorite animal, you can start there. If you don't know Mom's favorite animal, you can look for images of animals in pairs. We carry many art prints of baby animals with their mother. Art prints like First Christmas by Bonnie Mohr, Watching the Horizon by Lucie Bilodeau or Makulu by Ron D'Raine are few of the many mother animal and baby animal prints we carry that would make a perfect gift for Mom.

Motherhood Gifts for Any Mother

Emile Munier Collection:

Emile Munier	Maternal Affection

First on our list is Mother’s Day art by Emile Munier. He was a French-born painter who specialized in portraits of women, children and household pets. We have several of his best works in our collection, including Pardon Mama, A Special Moment (1874) and Maternal Affection. Some of these paintings that would be a perfect gift for Mother's Day are ones that include a mother embracing her child.

Giving these paintings to a mother can show that she is passionate and loving. These specific pieces are best when given from the mother's child but can also be given from a spouse or other close relative as well. These paintings can be grouped together or paired with paintings by Munier’s mentor, William Adolphe Bourguereau. Bourguereau is the next French-born figure painter on our list.

William Adolphe Bouguereau	Not Too Much to Carry

William Adolphe Bouguereau

Unlike his student, William Adolphe Bouguereau liked to paint cherubs and angels too. His paintings relate to all mothers as he has paintings of young mothers with their children as well as older mothers. He also has portraits of couples together which would be a great gift from the spouse to the mother. Paintings like Mother and Child and Not Too Much to Carry are perfect depictions of motherhood. In some of William's paintings, women and children often appear in a holy light. Examples include paintings like Awakening Heart and Whisperings of Love (1889). However, not all of his women and children were given angel’s wings. These pieces that show women and children as angels and other spiritual figures are perfect pieces for a religious mother or a mother that believes her children were a gift.

Giving Mom the gift of art is a gift that keeps giving. She will feel appreciated and loved every time she sees it hanging on the wall. Have Mom's gift already hanging on the wall and surprise her! Check out our how to hang framed art and how to hang canvas art pages for help on hanging the art for her.

Use Art to Pay Tribute to Former U.S. President, Abraham Lincoln

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 26. March 2015 16:23

Abraham Lincoln: Honesty, Freedom, Equality

If former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln were still walking this earth, he’d be turning a whopping 206 years old this past February and we can’t imagine what that would be like for him. However, what we can imagine is how wonderful it would be to walk into a display area during this month’s Presidential holidays that’s filled with images from American history. The former 16th President’s image could be at the center of the display.

Over the years, there have been many paintings and photos taken in Abraham Lincoln’s memory. The list of artists whose work has spotlighted the former world leader at one time or another includes George Henry Story, Howard Pyle, Nathaniel Currier, Jason Lauritis and Mark Hampton. Some of the artists, like Howard Pyle, also created a great deal of art devoted to the Civil War and American history in general.

Others, like Jason Laurits, choose to take a quirky approach towards the former U.S. President. For example, he created a print featuring Lincoln wearing roller blades. It would pair well with contemporary pieces like Abraham Lincoln’s Face Against Colored Backgrounds, Abraham Lincoln: Honesty, Freedom, Equality, Tails and Heads. We should also mention that the artists who created the first two pieces are unknown. The third and fourth prints were created by artist David Bromstad. They are part of a two-piece series that showcases American currency.

 Abraham Lincoln (Gettysburg Address)

Politics aside, Lincoln was such an interesting figure in his own right. As such, his image could be paired with artwork associated with his personal life. For instance, it is well-known that he loved his pets and often let them eat at the dinner table with him. He was also very religious, enjoyed wrestling and even participated in a séance at one time in his life. So a display created in his honor could include pictures of cats, dogs, wrestlers and the reprint of a 1800s Poster Advertising a Psychic Performance by the Davenport Brothers.

To find the framed artwork mentioned above and other pieces of Americana that could be used to celebrate Presidential holidays, please contact us at the Fulcrum Gallery.

Top 5 Weird Holidays in February to Celebrate with Great Wall Art

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 5. February 2015 13:13

If you don’t consider yourself to be a hopeless romantic but still want to decorate your surroundings with seasonal art, take heart. February actually has a lot of different, weird holidays going on that could be used as a basis for a month long art display. To save you and other art lovers’ precious decorating time, we’ve listed our picks for the top five weird holidays in February to celebrate with wall art:

Return Shopping Carts to the Supermarket Month

Did you know that one of the holidays on tap is Return Shopping Carts to the Supermarket Month? It’s about as weird of a national observance as one can get but don’t let that stop you from celebrating it with art. Use artist Paul Edmondson’s Grocery Carts print as a linchpin for the display then surround it with shopping related art. Two wonderful prints to consider are John Jones’ General Store and Scott Coleman’s Oakbowery Store. One print shows the interior of a vintage store and the other shows the exterior of another.

Fabulous Florida Strawberry Month

Fabulous Florida Strawberry Month is also slated to take place. So it might be fun to hang up an array of strawberry art alongside of prints that give a nod to the Sunshine State. Why not hang Ruane Manning’s print, Christine’s South Beach Café in the center to represent one of the state’s popular foodie destinations. Then surround it with Charlene Audrey’s Island Nectar Series, Ray Pelley’s Strawberry Delight and David Carter Brown’s Sweet & Juicy Strawberries prints. Great places to set up the display include the kitchen, hallway, sun room and dining room.

National Hot Breakfast Month

While you are at it, you might want to create a display in recognition of National Hot Breakfast Month too. Artist Katherine Lovell has created a series of word art prints that talk about breakfast and Pierre Bonnard has completed a series titled, The Breakfast Room. They’d be a great place to start. Afterward, you could fill out the wall with prints of breakfast items like hot tea, toast, coffee, pancakes and waffles.

Children and Pets Dental Health Month

February also happens to be National Pet Dental Month and National Children’s Dental Health Month. Consequently, it would undoubtedly be entertaining to decorate the bathrooms with dental art. Artists Luke Stockdale and Drako Fontaine both have prints that focus on the importance of brushing one’s teeth. Either one could serve as the centerpiece for the display. The surrounding prints could consist of Jim Dratfield’s Smile and the World Smiles with You, Anne Parsons’ Fairy and some movie posters. The ones that come to our minds are for the films Dentist on the Job, Dentist in the Chair and The Adventures of Timmy the Tooth.

Lisa Hilliker	Small-Somebunny to Love

Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month

Finally, we wanted to toss in Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month. Artist Lisa Hilliker has a great print titled, Small-Some Bunny to Love. It would be perfect for the center of an Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month display. The rest of the presentation could contain rabbit art by artists like Richard Murray, Sir Edwin Henry Landseer, Will Bullas and John Woodhouse Audubon. For the Love of Word Art From Barn Owl Primitives

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 31. July 2014 13:13

Barn Owl Primitives started out small. Christi, the creator, started out making handcrafted Christmas gifts, specifically hand-painted, door-hanging snowman, when money was tight. Friends and families became her first customers but, then, the word got out…and friends of friends started placing orders as well. Since snowman is rather synonymous with winter, Christi started other ideas that weathered seasons: word art that are perennially appealing. Barn Owl Primitives was born and “signs to decorate your life” becomes her signature motto. Since then, her Barn Owl Primitives has birthed various categories of word art:

Family Rules

It’s true every family has its own rules, but some rules seem to be universal. Short of repeating yourself often, it would be neat to have these rules written out and place in strategic places as reminders. Need help to maintain order in the playroom? Enlist the help of Playroom rules word art – all the gentle reminders conveniently placed on the canvas (or neatly framed) – a great way to reinforce rules without nagging. How about kitchen rules? Barn Owl has a series of that too: Sit up Straight or simply entitled “Kitchen.

Encouragement

We could all use a little “pep” talk now and then, a little pick-me-up encouragement. What better way to motivate yourself or others than a word art décor? Whether you want to be brave (or reminded you’re brave), strive to be real or just want to love and be loved, Barn Owl primitives have a range of selection to cater to your needs.

Holiday Signs

Want to create a festive mood? Or get into the holiday spirit? Holiday word art can help you do that without really trying too hard. Hang one up and allow the magic to diffuse the room with that seasonal joy and longing, a little nostalgia or warmth. Christmas, Halloween or just to welcome a new season, take your pick. Order up some holiday cheer, it's that time of the year.

Sports

Know a husband, a father, a son, a brother or a friend who loves sports? They live, eat and breathe sports and you may experience a little neglect when the sports season is on? They would love one of the word art on sports. Football or soccer, these word art will make great gifts for sports fans.

Using Barn Owl Primitives word art for decor is a great way to add character, swag or mood. Buy them for yourself or to give away as gifts. Feel free to browse our website or contact us for more information.

Holiday Art Collections That Are Perfect for Thanksgiving Celebrations

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 14. November 2013 15:53

Turkey Chef

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, many people are searching for ways to decorate their homes in time for the festivities. Some people opt to place a few cardboard cut-outs of turkeys here and there. Others like to display framed, holiday art. If you count yourself among the later group, we’d like to make a few suggestions:

Thanksgiving Holiday Art Collection #1: Archibald Thorburn

The late Scottish artist Archibald Thorburn’s work would make a wonderful addition to a Thanksgiving art display wall. Thorburn was known for his bird illustrations, including the one titled Wild Turkey. It features sepia, black and white hues that would blend in well with many autumn decorations. If pheasant, goose or duck happen to be on your holiday menu, don’t worry. Thorburn’s collection of holiday art includes images of them too.

Thanksgiving Holiday Art Collection #2: John James Audubon

While we are on the subject of bird illustrations, let’s not forget about ornithologist John James Audubon. His artwork would look phenomenal on a Thanksgiving display wall as well. His Wild Turkey fine art print is considered to be one of the best available. You could feasibly pair it with turkey illustrations by J. Stewart, Archibald Thorburn and Charles I. Bonapart.

Thanksgiving Holiday Art Collection #3: Leo Stans

Do you remember The National Park Series of framed prints that were released in the 1990s? If so, you may recall the artist Leo Stans. His body of work contains very colorful prints featuring turkeys in the wild. Two prints of note are Turkeys and Along the Fence. Both show the turkeys in a natural, autumn setting. Because of the colors involved, they would also pair well with Red Horse Signs’ print titled Turkey Hunt.

Thanksgiving Holiday Art Collection #4: T.C. Chiu

Would you rather take a whimsical approach to your Thanksgiving holiday art display? Try taking a peek at artist T.C. Chiu’s collection of work. Known for his artistry with Giclee, watercolors and oils, he has a fun series of art dubbed Turkey Chef. There are three paintings in the series. Each one features a chef in the process of preparing a turkey dinner. As such, you may want to hang them in the dining room or near the entrance to the kitchen.

Those are just a sampling of the Thanksgiving art available. Some of the additional artists to consider are Katherine Roundtree, Currier & Ives, Claude Monet and Diane Arthurs. To learn more about them and others, please contact us at Fulcrum Gallery. Our toll-free number is (800) 644-1278.

Holiday Art for Halloween

by Fulcrum Gallery Staff 14. October 2013 11:18

With Halloween just around the corner, and the chilly Fall air nipping at our heels, the time is just right for a frighteningly fun redecoration of any space in your home with some holiday art. So whether you are looking for cute, kitschy or folksy; or scary and modern; or you just love horror movie posters, we got what you need to spice up any space this Autumn season.

Try these three selections.

The Art of Dan Dipaolo

3 witches by Dan Dipaolo

Swap out a few of your current pictures for the works of Dan Dipaolo. Dipaolo's style is contemporary and friendly enough that it doesn't clutter up the space it occupies. He uses generous, vivid color and striking, cute images to create almost a cartoon world of festivity and cheer. The prints range from plump chef's carving pumpkins to trick-or-treaters dressed in their favorite costumes to brightly-hued jack-o-lanterns rattling their teeth and wishing you a Happy Halloween.

The Works of Serena Bowman

Halloween Ghost Orange by Serena Bowman

The works of Serena Bowman fall into the category of cute and kitschy. Her art resembles big, playful greeting cards that are full of color and spirit. They offer a modern look that screams Halloween and fun. Her works feature cats, bats, and ghosts, and are never short of adding some holiday joy into your day with catch phrases like "If the boo fits, scare it." Bowman's style is perfect to scare up some spirit in your house.

Horror Movie Posters

Exorcist - One Sheet

For the true horror fan, perhaps the one that wants it to be Halloween year 'round, nothing beats horror movie promotion posters. From classic posters featuring Frankenstein and Dracula to the more modern fare of Freddy, Jason, and Michael Myers, we have prints from every genre of horror movie, from every decade they were released. Prints like these are not only collectible, they can act as great decoration for a movie night, a party, or even for the Halloween season.
