What did you do before becoming an artist?

I was always interested in doing crafts, always creating and making things since my youth, ie, making shoe box houses with toothpick furniture, building tree houses as a child, and getting in trouble because I left the hammer and saw in the woods and they rusted. My last job from 1981-1985 was a Secretarial position to the Deans in the Admissions Office at Colby College in Waterville. The President at the time hired me to do calligraphy work on their different program certificates.

How did you get a career as an artist?

By the time I was 16-17 years old, I had made up my mind that I wanted to be an artist, that someday I would make that happen.

Your art has a variety of different animals, do you have a favorite animal?

For some reason, I like to paint black birds, black cats, deer, moose, raccoon. I think because they are familiar to me living in Maine.

I have many many favorite songs..I like Elton John's "Your Song". I listen to Estaban, AC/DC, Eric Clapton, ZZ Top, and many others...

What is your biggest inspiration for art?

I love color, pattern, painting trees, houses, circles, landscapes. Inspiration comes from everywhere, nature, magazines, a dream and things I like. I am always looking for ideas and inspiration everywhere I go.
