Carol Jessen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and biology. She studied at San Francisco State University. Carol was born and raised in Oakland, California. After her graduation she took her backpack and traveled the many corners of the world including India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Europe, and many countries of the Far East. Carol then went on to study at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and the Mendocino Art Center. The Far East left a vivid impression on her and this prompted her to reside in Kyoto, Japan for one year and on a later trip she went to Japan to study the Japanese woodblock printing with Toshi Yoshida in the Japan Alps. Carol was also tutored by William S. Lansberg in composition, design and the psychology of perception. Carol’s primary mediums are pastel, oil painting, and various forms of collage and printmaking. The Hunters Point Shipyard is now where she enjoys her studio by the bay, and is also home to one of the largest artist communities in the US.

Her work has been featured by Editions Limited and Next Monet. In 2004, her original pastels and oil paintings sold out at the New York Art Expo. Her paintings have also been featured on book covers and the film "Click" starring Adam Sandler. Capturing the fleeting moods of landscapes and cityscapes as they are transformed by darkness, light, rain, and fog is her continuing passion. Through manipulation of form, nuance, design, and color, she strives to make the ordinary to become extraordinary.
