Bob Fera is an Information Technology Manager. He works for a small company called Zenith Information Systems, Inc. The company is based in Tarzana, CA and he has worked there since 1980. In the course of his work, he has had to wear many hats simultaneously –system administrator, programmer, network administrator, database administrator, among others – thereby he has become proficient with many different technologies. His wife, Janice, their son, Alex, and himself live in Foresthill in the Sierra Foothill community. He’s fortunate to be able to perform most of his job duties from home, thanks to the “wonders of the internet.” Fera and Janice grew up in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. They are both graduates of UCLA. Fera holds a degree in Mathematics/Computer Science. He got married in 1985 and settled in Woodland Hills, California. Several years later the family moved to Calabasas, near Malibu.
Soon after Alex was born in 2003, the family left Southern California and began building their current home in Foresthill. their new place was completed in January 2005. They are thrilled to be living in a hushed small town atmosphere where beautifully dark skies right out of there front door is a constant companion. Fera’s interest in astronomy began when he was a young boy, and he acquired his first telescope at age 12. It was a 6” f/8 Optical Craftsman Newtonian. He even tried his hand, though unsuccessfully, at astrophotography around that time. for several years his enthusiasm faded, but was rekindled in 1990.
