Colby Chester has been a passionate photographer for more than 5 decades and still continues to explore the world through the lens of his cameras. Since his childhood, he has always loved things with artistic flare. He liked to read art books and attend art shows and exhibitions. Chester has been a devoted still photographer for much of his life, working in medium format, 35mm, and digital. He’s actively involved in environmental issues locally, regionally and internationally. He uses his photography as an instrument for advocacy whenever possible. His photographs are his voice through which he communicates to the world. His interest in travel and landscape photography was initially galvanized by the gripping photography in National Geographic Magazine, and also a publication titled “In Wildness Is The Preservation of the World”, the Sierra Club publication of the seminal work of Eliot Porter.

His great-grandfather and namesake was a long-time contributor to the National Geographic Magazine and was among its founding members. Chester must have inherited his artistic talent from his great-grandfather. In addition to exhibiting his work at Photo Center Northwest in Seattle, WA, and Benham Gallery as well as a display in South Lake Union at Portage Bay Cafe (ongoing), his art has been published in art magazines and literary journals. The framed Colby Chester art are much sought after by many discerning artist who put a high price tag on them. A selection of Chester’s work is featured in COLOR magazine. The photographer has been recognized in Photographers Forum.
