In Kate McRostie’s “Bon Appétit Reggiano,” two thick slices of cheese sit upon a whicker tray framed by grapes, leaves and vines. McRostie’s contemporary still life uses warm earth tones to rise out of the black background. In turn, this fine art print seems to have a life like depth. Fine brushstrokes in browns, greens and whites help to create illumination in this piece. Over top of this image, a calligraphic name of an Italian cheese, “Reggiano,” floats. Combining a rustic Tuscan style with a contemporary feel, McRostie creates a print that fits in both formal and informal settings.
Part of her “Bon Appétit” series, this cheese still life is best countered by “Bon Appétit Chaorce.” Framed in gold or printed on canvas, “Bon Appétit Reggiano” would make a great addition to a Italian restaurant or steak house.
