John Gould (1804 – 1881) was born in Lyme, Dorset. He was an English bird artist and ornithologist. He loved painting from his childhood, and his paintings have been collected for a very long time. His intuitive talent developed quickly and his paintings are now in corporate and private collections worldwide. Gould published a number of monographs on birds that he illustrated by plates that he produced with the assistance of several artists including Joseph Wolf, William Matthew Hart, Henry Constantine Richter and Edward Lear. Gould created his designs by putting together different elements and styles. He developed his paintings from direct observation. He was always looking for the beauty in nature especially birds. That’s what describes her style. Due to the quality of his work, The Gould League in Australia is named after him. He has been considered the father of bird study in Australia. All his paintings display a delicacy of touch, simplicity of application, and a wonderful understanding of color. He is the one who identified the bird nicknamed “Darwin finches” that played a big role in the inception of Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection.

Gould became an expert in the art of taxidermy and opened a business in London as a taxidermist. After just three years, his hard work and skill made him to be the first Preserver and Curator at the museum of Zoological Society of London. All his images promise to inspire and delight all new artists and all who view them. His pieces of artwork have appeared in many publications and they can be found in many galleries and museums all over the world.
