Martin Quen (Born 1968) was born in Atlanta and from a young age, he studied the works of Kandinsky, Matisse and Rothko. By the time he was 18, he was emerging as a graffiti artist who’s internationally recognized. Over the years, Quen’s work has softened, and he now places more emphasis on stylish compositions intonated by explosions of color. Intriguing design and constant creativity has landed his art in both national and international art collections. Quen loved art from a tender age and his family had a unique balance of artistic and grounded values. In fact his mother was a well-esteemed art consultant and designer. Discussions of design and art were commonplace in their home. Through the connections of his family, a renowned artist in Atlanta took a keen interest in Quen’s artistic development and talent.
He credits this artist with his one-of-a-kind compositional style. Because he was exposed to this artist’s way of life, he learned that artistic dreams and creativity can be realized. He became active in graffiti competitions at the age of 18, and evolved to be a graffiti artist who’s recognized the world over. He began traveling to New York, Miami and Madrid for these competitions which further exposed him to a great variety of influences and styles. His painting style had earlier been a subdued color palette, but later transformed into a bold color palette as his graffiti style emerged. The works of Quen then softened to more of an emphasis on compositions that are sophisticated.
