Lisa Hilliker was born and brought up in northern Vermont where she was surrounded by abundant wildlife and natural beauty; it is therefore not surprising that she derives her inspiration from both. She has been creating art since she was a small child. Lisa loves nature and animals. She also loves old barns and uses them to produce her art. Her early teachers included a talented eighth grade teacher and her artistic mother and grandmother. She also learnt from other artists and let herself o be guided by her powers of observation. Lisa says that when it’s time for something to be painted, it makes itself known. An artist just needs to open the vibes.

Lisa’s painting process begins by selecting the right piece of barn board for a project, which she then sands to give it a base coat of paint. Once she is satisfied that everything is perfect, she begins to paint the image. She works primarily in acrylics, and finishes with and antiquing process and finally applies a protective coat of varnish. She does that with her muse, her favorite cat, always by her side. Today Lisa continues to work and live in Vermont. It is said that she likes to keep things simple and all of her animals have proved good models over the years. A great source of inspiration for Lisa has been Warren Kimble, a fellow Vermonter artist, who is considered to be the best known living Folk Artist in America. Her art can be found in many collections throughout the world.
