Artist André Bourrie (Born 1936) was born in Montpellier, France. His wish is for his work to allow him to become an intimate confident of nature. A distinguished landscape and maritime artist, Bourrié is represented by Axelle Fine Arts, giving him the opportunity to fully dedicate his life to painting. He’s one of foremost contemporary masters in France, and his works are part of institutional and private collections around the world. Bourrié’s parents died when he was only eight. Without parental guidance and security, Bourrie found joy and solace on forms, textures, colors and light. He had a mischievous character and free spirit that led him to skip school to play with older friends. After his parent’s death, he first lived with an uncle, and then was later sent to Paris in a small orphanage, where he had more opportunities to draw and surprisingly he earned his best grades in art class. The harsh period in his life proved critical to his maturity and was the most important influence in his becoming an artist.

Bourrié joined the university where he earned a degree as a ceramist; a trade that allowed him to have conversations about art and color, to express more of his creative talents, and to confront new styles and ideas. The trade also left him with enough time to work on his paintings. Due to his impressive work, he was promoted director of an atelier, and then asked to teach a course. Throughout this time, Bourrié’s desire to dedicate his life fully to painting was very strong. Today, his original oil paintings are represented in Europe and the United States and have been exhibited in New York as well as Tokyo, Osaka, Beverly Hills, Paris, Chicago, London, Palm Beach, and other major cities.
