Richard Berenholtz is an architect and photographer from Colombia. He holds a master’s degree in architecture from Columbia University, where he graduated in 1974. After his graduation, he worked as a designer with I.M.Pei. As he was working as an architect, his hobby of photography became a passion and this led him to 3 one-man shows in New York galleries. Ten years after his graduation, he left architecture to pursue a full-time career as a commercial photographer. He specializes in cityscapes, landscapes and architecture. His work has evolved from black-and-white to color, and he started using a panoramic camera to capture stunningly wide views of New York, the city he loves so much. He was chosen in 1986 to be the official photographer for the Statue of Liberty centennial celebration by the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island Foundation.

In the past about 25 years, Berenholtz has had 6 photography books published: ‘Panoramic New York,’ ‘Inside New York,’ ‘New York New York,’ ‘New York Architecture,’ ‘Manhattan Architecture,’ and New York Deco.’ ‘Manhattan Architecture’ was published in five languages and sold more than 50,000 copies. New York New York has sold more than 100,000 copies to date. Berenholtz has produced what many consider as one of the most comprehensive collections of photographs of New York. In 2006, his photographs were chosen to represent New York City in the International Architectural Exhibition at the Venice Biennale. In 2012, he created the photographs for the NYC Olympic Games bid book, which were used by the New York Olympic Committee for the final presentation in Singapore.
