Born and raised in Chicago, IL, Sue Jachimiec graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in Art, after which she worked at the Chicago Board of Trade on the trading floor. Longing for a break from the hustle and bustle of the life in the city, she decided to move to Richmond, VA, where she pursued her artistic love and soon became connected within the art community. Currently, she works with a variety of mediums, such as cold wax and oil, acrylic and encaustic. She spends many of her days experimenting in her studio. The artist travels between her homes in Dodgeville, Wisconsin and Richmond, Virginia and wherever she goes, she always finds inspiration for her latest artistic creations. The main theme throughout her work is the process of manipulating layers to allow for a surface rich in texture.

She uses a distinct style in which her artwork brings together inherent compositions while at the same time revealing her remarkable powers of observation. Her art has been noted for their bold coloration, compositional rhythms, and sweeping brushstrokes which are gestural in nature. One art critic said that her subject matter never feels expunged from nature, but rather thought of in and expressed as art. Her art brings to life the fundamental quest to express something emotive, subjective and personal, in an abstract, poetic way. When not painting, Sue can be found strolling on the streets of downtown Dodgeville with Jeff, her husband, or spending time with her two children, Nathan and Cecelia.
