Ryan Rice is specialized in curatorial practice, indigenous art and contemporary art. He’s the chairman of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Graduate Studies. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Curatorial Studies from Bard College, New York, from the Center for Curatorial Studies. He graduated from Concordia University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and is also a holder of an Associate of Fine Arts degree from the Institute of American Indian Arts, Santa Fe, in New Mexico. Rice has been working for several years within the art/museum gallery milieu at various centers including the Indian Art Centre, Iroquois Indian Museum, the Walter Phillips Art Gallery and Carleton University Art Gallery. He has published articles in numerous catalogues and the periodicals such as Spirit, Canadian Art, Muse, Fuse, and Blackflash. He’s also a former director and co-founder of the Aboriginal Curatorial Collective. He’s also the co-founder of both First Nations art collective and Nation to Nation.
His exhibitions include Oh So Iroquois, Perspectives on Home and Native Land, LORE, Scout's Honor, Hochelaga Revisited, Soul Sister and Counting Coup. He became the Chief Curator the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts in 2009 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, a position that he served in until 2014. In 2014 August, the Ontario College of Art and Design University in Toronto appointed him Chair of Indigenous Visual Culture program. At the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, he was named the 2014/2015 Audain Aboriginal Curatorial Fellow. He has curated exhibits in a variety of venues throughout North America; though he’s originally from Canada.
