Michael Runkel has photographed in bout 200 countries around the world. He’s a commercial and freelance travel photographer. Runkel ‘s images have appeared in newspapers, guidebooks, advertising, magazines, and various multimedia all over the world, including the National Geographic Traveler, New York Times, Lonely Planet, Conde Nast, Penguin Books, Rough Guides, and more. Runkel was born in Bavaria, Germany, and he discovered his passion for adventure travel at a young age. That’s while he was reading Karl May in elementary school. He’s one of the most traveled people, and his journeys have taken him to about 200 countries and he has a photo collection of more than 1.2 million images. These images are of people, travel destinations, ancient temples, archeological sites and traditional lifestyles, as well as detailed coverage of wildlife in its natural habitat, scenic landscapes and flora and fauna.
Runkel specializes in photographing the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage sites. His collection covers more than 600 of the sites, and is one of the most extensive of its kind.
