A Delaware native, Richard Clifton (Born in 1961), is a self-taught artist who’s known for his attractive pieces of art. He’s chosen the traditional genre of waterfowl as his subject of choice or specialty. He was born in Delaware and he lives on a celebrated family farm neighboring the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge. His success has been marked by several accolades, and he lives in a place where he is surrounded by many inspirations for his art. Since 1991, he has received several awards including his first duck stamp contest. He has accumulated more than 20 state stamps in just 8 years—placing him 5th on the unprecedented duck stamp list for awards. In 1996, Clifton was selected to paint Australian duck stamp and just a year later, he won the New Hampshire contest for the third time. In 1998, he artist became the first 3-time winner in his home state.

Clifton agreed to paint the New Jersey and New York duck stamps in 1999, bringing his total number of stamps to 23 over all. His work has been on display at the country’s finest art shows for several years. They have been on display at the Oklahoma Wildlife Art Show and the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition and many conservation groups have chosen him as the artist of the year. Clifton has chosen acrylics as his medium and one of his favorite subjects is Waterfowl, he has painted more than 40 duck stamps from various states. His work has appeared on tee-shirts, a beer stein and magazine covers.
