Heather Robinson doesn’t remember a time in her life when she wasn’t doing something creative in her free hours. Art gave her a sense of identity that she could carry with her wherever she went; her family used to move long distances several times during her childhood. Heather studied architecture at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and this gave her a passion for structures and a fascination with how people choose to decorate the things and spaces around them. She adores the accidental and the handmade, and has a fondness for the imperfect. She believes that imperfection is what makes us human, and it is her aim to celebrate the best parts of being human. Heather indiscriminately loves color and pattern - if it’s brightly colored and decorated, she’s attracted to it. When the artist began her art practice, she was working in mixed media and collage, but she transitioned to mostly painting because she likes having full control over her materials and colors.

So now she calls herself a painter, although some collage elements can still be seen worked into her paintings. Apart from her architectural studies, she also holds Bachelor of Environmental Design from Texas A&M University, and also took Environmental Design Studies including design studio in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy. She’s been painting in her tiny studio in San Francisco in the Mission Bernal neighborhood since 2007. She’s also a professionally-trained baker and studies a few foreign languages so she can have a greater chance of getting by when she goes somewhere.
