Creating is always on Dorothy Gaziano’s mind. Images and colors constantly flash before her eyes. Dorothy is an abstract artist, spilling herself onto her canvas in form and color. The creative process makes her feel whole. Dorothy is self-taught with her own style of painting. She grew up in Massachusetts and lived in the city for several years. When she was still a teenager, her family moved to the suburbs of Boston where she still lives today. She counts herself so fortunate to be near the beaches and just a few steps from the mountains. Today, she’s an established artist, who has worked as a folk art painter with a publishing company for more than eight years. Dorothy’s art has been licensed by companies such as Wallquest, York Wallcoverings, Fashion Mats Inc., India Home Fashion, Direct International, Close to the Art, Blossom Bucket, Mohawk and Magnet Works. She broke away from folk art to pursue her love of abstract art.

Dorothy never knows how a piece would turn out. Her only initial plan is the color she would use for the base. She paints until what comes out feels like the emotional idea she has in her mind. She uses many tools when she paints - sometimes a scraper, or brush, her hands or even a palette knife. She’s constantly trying and exploring new techniques. And while at it, the hours she spends in the studio seem to fly by. She applies her paint in layers, covering and blending or wiping away to leave a soft thin layer. She scrapes or adds more paint to the surface for depth and interest, sometimes scraping deep into the texture then filling the gaps with more paint.
