Michael Miller was born in Scotland (Glasgow). He was trained at the Liceo Artistico Leon Battista Alberti in Florence, Italy. He specialized in academic drawing. He also trained in oil painting in the same city with the Laborarte Group. In 2006, Miller moved to Mozambique, where he got attracted to and was heavily influenced by the work of local artists, traditional designs and by the religious objects and art of Sub-Saharan Africa. In Mozambique, he lived in Maputo and this is where he also began to experiment with and to collect natural pigments. In 2010 he moved to New York where he studied assemblage, drawing and abstract painting at the Art Students League of New York. Due to his hard work and the quality of his art, he was awarded the Henri Matisse Estate Merit Scholarship by the League. Since he moved to New York, the artist has become increasingly involved in public art projects that are community-based.

He’s a volunteer artist for the Lulu & Leo Fund and Sing For Hope, and he sat on the board of South of the Navy Yards Artists (SONYA) in Brooklyn from September 2012 to January 2015. He currently sits on the SONYA's Exhibitions Advisory Committee. Miller holds a doctorate in civilization and history from the European University Institute in Florence. Miller has exhibited at several places including but not limited to Brooklyn Oenology (BOE), Inwood Hill Park, New York, Riverside Park, New York, The Candy Factory, 124 Washington Avenue, Van Brunt Street, Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York, TRA Gallery, 35 Claver Place, Brooklyn, Willoughby Walk, Brooklyn, New York, and Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery.
