Jane Freeman was born and raised in western North Dakota on a farm where the prairie meets the sky. Her parents had a wheat farm and cattle which is where she first became infatuated with light. Her love for animals came from both her parents who took in all strays and showed such tenderness to them. Sunsets there in the summer can turn everything gold and pink and shadows are truly purple. Jane graduated from the University of North Dakota, was married and began raising two children. She has lived with her husband on a lake in northern Minnesota for 30 years and they can't imagine being any place else.

Jane says being juried into a number of national and international shows has been exciting to her, but even more exciting for her is being published in Splash 9, Splash 7, Watercolor Magic, The American Artist Magazine, International Artist Magazine, and a book by International Artist Magazine titled "How Did You Paint That." The book is volume 2 of florals and still-life. She has written a book titled "A Celebration of Light" for North Light. Jane is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the earth, from the sky, from a passing shape, from a scrap of paper, from a spider's web, etc. She has a B.F.A. but had never worked in watercolors until 1989. Jane says that, everyday is an inspiration and a gift to her, even when it is forty degrees below zero.
