NASA, ESA, and STScl are known for the Hubble Space Telescope which came as a collaboration of the three. The Hubble Space Telescope is a long-term space-based observatory project. The scientists here carry out the observations in visible, ultraviolet and infrared light. In many ways the project has revolutionized modern astronomy. It is the efficient tool for making new discoveries, and is also driving astronomical research in general. The team says the Universe is splendidly transparent to visible light over journeys that last billions of years. But in the last small fraction of a second before it arrives at the mirrors of the telescope on Earth, light travels through a tumultuous atmosphere and the superior details become blurred in the process. It is this same tumultuous atmosphere that makes the stars appear to twinkle on a dark night.

To get clear images, the scientists must overcome this problem and they do this by putting a telescope in space. This is just one way of evading this problem. The telescope collects visible light from its orbit high above the atmosphere, and also observes the ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths that are filtered out completely by the atmosphere. A joint STScl, ESA and NASA project, the Hubble Space Telescope has made some of the most spectacular discoveries in the astronomy’s history. From 600 km above the Earth, the telescope can detect light with clarity 5 times sharper than the best telescopes based on the ground, and looks deep into space where some of the most weighty mysteries are still hidden in the mists of time.
