Over the past ten years, artist Victoria Brown has built a collection of paintings of: pools, seas, gardens, seeds, water, and flowers, and most recently spring blossom. Her work is celebratory often responding to the beauty on this earth and the people’s connection to it. Her love for light, color and pattern led her to develop painting techniques using, gold leaf, oil paints lace and sometimes sequins. The Arts Council England recently supported her project called “Blossom.” Victoria celebrated the arrival of blossom. She documented its arrival from bud to the fall of petal taking up an arts residency at the National Trust’s Hardwick Hall within the fruit orchards in Chaddesden and Derbyshire, Derby amidst magnificent cherry blossom-edged roads. Victoria believes celebrating the wonders and beauty of nature through arts is one of the first steps towards environmentalism, and also as a way to encourage people to take time to look at the beauty that nature provides and fall in love with the world around them.

Through the Blossom project, Victoria aimed to reconnect people to the natural world and encourage them to respond creatively to its beauty. The project follows closely the 'Losing Lace' project which was highly successful. Victoria’s painting style has its roots in the beautiful lace her family once manufactured. She is fascinated by the complexities of its construction and the negative spaces in the lace. Victoria believes creativity is in everyone, and is a priceless means to respond to the world we live in and to express ourselves.
