Howie Garber’s art have been widely published as book and magazine covers; and in greeting cards and calendars. He’s a professional nature photographer and fine arts photographer. Since 1972, Garber has lived in Salt Lake City. His interest in photography began in 1969 while attending a “History of Photography” class at the University of Rochester. Garber remained an amateur for several years. His first trip outside North America came when he was 39 years old. That is when he traveled to Nepal where he shot 40 rolls of film. This convinced him that he could be a photographer and he decided to spend more time with his cameras. During 1990 while traveling in South America, his desire to travel was rewarded with a hard to believe stroke of luck. A Brazilian biologist who was doing jaguar research picked him up while he was hitch-hiking.

He experienced the marvel of observing wildlife in their natural habitats, and this became an incentive start a second profession and he decided to improve his photography skills. Since then Garber has traveled and photographed on seven continents n different places including Bhutan, China, Peru, Patagonia, Brazil, Antarctica, England, Kenya, Australia, Alaska and Switzerland. The photographer often returns to the same locations to take photos and refresh his memories. Some of his clients have included National Geographic, Newsweek, Anheuser Busch, Patagonia National Audubon Society, the Sierra Club, ColdWater Creek and Greenpeace. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Natural History in London and the Smithsonian Museum.
