Alan Dyer (Born in 1944) was born in Nelson, Lancashire. He’s active and lives in the United Kingdom. Doing what he likes has made him to be very successful, and his works are now in many businesses and homes and has been exhibited extensively in galleries in the UK. Dyer studied Whitefield Secondary School and then went for business training with CRS Ltd., a training that took him five years. He also studied fine art at Bristol Polytechnic, Burnley School of Art, and the University of Reading. At the University of Reading, he gained Master of Philosophy for research into the psychology of pictorial & symbolic form and perception. After graduation here, he proceeded to the University of Birmingham Medical School where he carried out research on visual perception at examining the visual form perception underlying neural mechanisms. Currently, he’s the financial director and chairman of Coventry Canal Basin Trust Ltd.

The chief aim of the Coventry Canal Basin Trust Ltd is to maintain and preserve structurally the original warehousing in Coventry's canal basin as a building of special historical importance. designers, craftspeople and artists use the workshops and twenty five studios on a relatively informal basis. The Warehouse operates as a community of creative practitioners. Dyer has been the Financial Director and Chairman of the trust since 1985 when it was founded in. From 1985 to 1997 Dyer also worked as a lecturer at Coventry University School of Art and Design on a full time basis. He taught courses on the ideology and psychology of art while at the same time continuing to produce and exhibit drawings and paintings.
