Richard De Wolfe was born and brought up in the Thousand Islands region of Canada. The mighty St. Lawrence River, the forests, and of course fields, made the wonders of nature come alive for De Wolfe. His art has been very popular ever since his first solo shows at the age of 15. That show was a big sell out, and made him to get commissions for many months after. De Wolfe went on to spend 25 years as an illustrator and produced paintings for national and international corporations such as Sony, Pepsi-Cola and General Motors. He believes that working as an illustrator was the best thing he could possibly have involved himself in. The tight deadlines and wide variety of subjects forced him to hone his skills and become very proficient as a painter.

De Wolfe feels that many of the leading painters alive today are former illustrators. According to him, subject matter is ever changing and wide-ranging. He has painted wildlife and landscapes extensively, but also paints farm and family scenes, still-life subjects, horses, boats, and just about anything that catches his imagination and eyes. The most important thing for him is to help people to see what he sees and feels about a subject. De Wolfe lives on a horse farm near Kingston with his wife Mary, Ontario, where he studies and paints scenes of the wildlife and rural life as well as the Thousand Islands. His pieces of art are highly priced by many discriminating collectors because they can be used to decorate any space.
