Carolyn Roth holds a B.S. degree from the University of Michigan and a M.Ed. degree from the University of Virginia. She’s made it her practice to convert her studio into a gallery after every one year or two to share the body of work that emerged from each of her artistic explorations. She’s always been gratified by the large numbers of pieces that left her studio to reside in others’ psyches and homes. Her journey in art has been a spiritual and psychological exploration. It has taken her to the Italian countryside, the Louisiana backcountry, to the hills of Nepal and Bhutan and to mother Ganges in India. She says that the journey continues. Where will it lead her in the future? The only thing that is certain is that it will lead her to deeper levels of innovation and exploration with the materials best suited for that exploration. She invites the viewer to share a piece of the journey with her.

At each stage of her work, she’s called to explore new media. In the beginning of her career, the flowing world of watercolor helped her loosen images that emerged from both her unconscious and her subjects. But when 2D would not longer her images, she created installations resident with images from her half awakened state. She then cycled back to a realm between 2D and 3D with mixed media and hand painted folded paper. Just recently the alterable images available through monotypes called her to investigate disparities on spiritual scenes from the images she brought back from her travels to the East.
