Born Ann Betticher McNeer, Ann Mcleod was born in New York City at the beginning of Second World War. Her father was Dr. Gordon McNeer, and her mother was Artemisa Evans, a wonderful mother and devoted wife. Her maternal grandparents were Artemisa and John of Florida (Lake Alfred), and her paternal grandparents were Arthur and Florence, also of Florida (Lake Alfred). Ann grew up in Manhasset, and attended Manhasset High School in Long Island. Many of her lasting friends come from this period in her life: the Leslie family, the Allalemdjian family, Ann Fiero, Linda Wakem, Dwight Beach, Connie Collins, Pat Barrow, and so many others. Ann was loyal to her friends throughout her life. She studied at Lindenwood University. then went ahead to earn a Master of Arts degree in Archeology at Washington University, and a Master of Arts degree in Psychology at SUNY.

She studied the Classical period in Greece. In the early 1960s their family moved into New York City. During that time Ann was the Director of Admissions at the Allen Stevenson School. Because she had a passion for Classical and Renaissance Art, she applied for and was granted a position as Vice President at the Villa Mercede in Florence, Italy. In the early 1970s when their family moved back to Lake Alfred, Ann lived with her mother in the house that their maternal grandparents had built. Ann's life has been a very rich and rewarding one. For more than 30 years she was a Professor of Psychology and Art History at Polk State College on the Lakeland and Winter Haven campuses. During this time, she traveled to Spain, Egypt, Russia and China.
