Artist John Sharman painted “At the End of the Porch” in 1918. The image depicts a young woman in a blue dress doing needlepoint, or maybe sewing, in front of a large window on the porch. She’s seated in a brown wicker chair and there’s some other wicker furniture on the porch as well. Outside the window appears to be a sunny day, with trees and shrubs surrounding the porch. One bush outside the porch is covered in delicate white flowers. The artist is from Massachusetts and this image is thought to have represented a spring day in the Northeast. Originally painted on canvas with oils, this image has a very traditional feel and is the most well-known work by Sharman. It has a timeless nature which makes it a versatile piece for decorating homes with many décor styles including country and Victorian. With a gold or silver frame, this piece works in the bedroom, living room or game room.
